If it is not diagnosed in the initial stages, it can cause permanent mental retardation in child. Another very common thyroid disease is the inflammation of thyroid. This common thyroid disease is developed into several other serious complications.

What Causes Hypothyroidism?

The chief cause of the development of hypothyroidism is the inadequate secretion of thyroid hormone. Symptoms that are associated with this type of thyroid disease are often misleading. They are easily mistaken for other diseases. If this thyroid disease is not diagnosed in early stages, the effect of hypothyroidism can be quite serious. It causes a disease that is characterized by stunt physical and mental growth and this disease is called cretinism disease.

What Causes Hyperthyroidism?

Excess secretion of thyroid hormone causes hyperthyroidism. It causes a disease which is called Grave’s disease. This disease is actually a form of thyroiditis and it one of the most common causes of hyperthyroidism. It is also referred to as Graves-Basedow disease. This disease is very common in middle-aged women. Another thyroid disease that is related to hyperthyroidism are Hurthle cell adenoma or thyroid adenoma. Hurthle is a large cell and it of pink colour. Another disease that is caused by hyperthyroidism is Plummer’s disease. It is basically a kind of goitre and it is one of the most common thyroid diseases.

Treatment of Thyroid Diseases

There are both medical methods and natural methods to treat thyroid diseases. Hormone supplements are prescribed by the doctor to the patient to treat thyroid disease. However, medical treatments mainly depend upon the form and intensity of thyroid disease in the patient. Your doctor will examine your body through a number of tests that may include blood tests to know the actual problem. There are some natural ways to cure thyroid diseases. These include use of herbs like ginger, consumption of L-Tyrosine-rich foods and many others.

If thyroid diseases are left untreated, especially in pregnant women, they can cause permanent damage to the health of the victim’s body and developing fetus.
